Back pain is any pain or discomfort that is anywhere along the spine. Most back pain is mechanical in nature, such as from a strain or sprain, and has causes that are not due to any underlying disease. Examples include overuse such as working out or lifting too much, prolonged sitting and lying down, sleeping in an uncomfortable position, or wearing a poorly fitting backpack.
However, some back pain can be due to arthritis, disc irritation or spinal stenosis. Sometimes back pain is accompanied by numbness or loss of strength in your legs or feet or shooting pain into your gluteal region or legs. Often many of these conditions are improved or resolved with non surgical treatment.
